Lifeguards had little to do Friday as the wind and rain from Irene moved in. With the high risk for rip currents, they're only job was keeping people out of the water since most Horry County beaches were closed to swimmers.

Since the beginning of this week Horry County has been operating on an OPCON 4 status, which simply means they are on alert. County officials are also in constant communication with the state Emergency Management Division and the National Weather Service. Horry County is maintaining the mentality that anything is possible.

Ten years ago, the National Hurricane Center switched from a three day forecast to a five day forecast, which gives us more time to prepare but also gives us more time to worry.
