Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce is expected in North Myrtle Beach City Court today for jury selection in her trial on a charge of Driving Left of Center. The trial was expected to begin at 11 a.m., but that hasn't happened yet.

Conway police arrested Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce for Driving Under the Influence January 8th. Pierce was scheduled to be in court Wednesday, but she requested a jury trial. Pierce denies any wrong-doing.

Retha Pierce was found guilty of resisting arrest in a December 25, 2007 arrest. She was sentenced to one year, which was suspended to 18 months probation.

The suspended mayor of Atlantic Beach has been cleared of a drunk driving charge. Toxicology tests for Retha Pierce came back negative for alcohol or other drugs, so the Marion County solicitor's office dropped the charge.
