A U.S. Marine from Marion County will be laid to rest this afternoon. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Ralph "E.J." Pate was killed Sunday June 26th in action during combat missions fighting the war in Afghanistan.

Monday morning, July 4th, 2011, the body of U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Ralph Pate arrived at the General Aviation Terminal at Myrtle Beach International Airport. Pate was killed in combat operations in Afghanistan.
