A possible oxygen deficiency in the water is what caused thousands of menhaden to wash ashore on the south end of Pawleys Island Tuesday, according to Pawleys Island Police Chief Mike Fanning.

Thousands of dead fish were found on Folly Beach Thursday morning. The Department of Natural Resources says the fish are all of the same species -- Menhaden.
