Timmonsville Police Chief Michael Martin tells NewsChannel 15 he's waiting to learn if his officers will get their final paychecks. But town administrator Mark Fountain and treasurer Dora Lee tell us the officers were paid Thursday and will be paid for their last day.

Timmonsville Mayor Darrick Jackson sent a letter to Police Chief Michael Martin Thursday, informing him that effective 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, the town's police department will cease to exist.

Two Florence County deputies inspected inventory and took a tour of the Timmonsville Police Department Wednesday morning, and Timmonsville councilman Jim Pigate says he's pretty sure it's because the Florence County Sheriff's Office will soon provide coverage for the town.

As Timmonsville Town Council met in executive session Friday morning to talk about the possibility of disbanding the police department to save money, loud voices could be heard coming from the closed door meeting and police had to go in to keep the peace.

The South Carolina Ethics Commission heard a complaint filed against Darrick Jackson this year saying he was in violation of state law as it pertained to his campaign funds during his bid for mayor in October of 2009.
