Tuesday marked the one year anniversary of the Hornet brush fire, which burned throughout the month of July in 2011 in Carolina Forest. It was started by fireworks. Firefighter used the anniversary, also the day before the Fourth of July, to remind others of firework safety.

North Myrtle Beach officials caution city residents and visitors to be extremely careful during the July 4th weekend with any form of outside activity that includes the use of open flames, such as grilling, fire pits, or chimeneas.

South Carolina measures drought conditions in five categories: normal, incipient, moderate, severe and extreme. Right now, all of the Pee Dee and the Grand Strand stand in the middle of that scale at moderate.
