An engineering firm is drilling in Georgetown at the spot where a building collapsed into a sinkhole nearly two weeks ago. Georgetown's mayor says if the sinkhole is a direct result of a DOT drainage project, it will not be the city of Georgetowns responsibility.

SC Department of Transportation officials say they're not sure if the drainage project they're working on in Georgetown caused a sinkhole that swallowed part of a building last week, but the DOT is taking claims from property owners who think their buildings may have been damaged by the sinkhole.

State Department of Transportation Commissioners, Georgetown city council memebers and state senators were among about 40 people who met Monday afternoon in Georgetown to discuss the problems caused by a sinkhole in the downtown area near Highway 17.

A building collapsed into a sinkhole Thursday night in downtown Georgetown. Tony Jordan owns the building. He says all the companies that were housed in the building have found new places to do business. He says the building is a total loss. It can't be repaired.

A sinkhole gobbled up a retail building on Fraser Street in Georgetown shortly before 11:00 p.m. Thursday. No one was hurt, but now other property owners in the area wonder if their buildings will be next.
