Jake Evans, the mayor elect of Atlantic Beach, is waiting to be sworn in, and will have to wait longer after a brief election commission meeting and a cancelled town council meeting Monday. Monday was also the last day candidates could appeal results from a the May 22nd election with the 15th Judicial Circuit.

Atlantic Beach Town Council members decided to start its annual motorcycle rally a week earlier, holding it from May 18th to May 28th, but Councilman Jake Evans thinks that's an effort to avoid holding an election.

The town's mayor, Retha Pierce, had called an emergency meeting 24 hours prior and when they showed up they were locked out of the town's community center where the meeting was set to be held. Also on the door was a note saying the meeting was canceled due to no quorum. Newschannel 15 received a fax just after 4:00 p.m. with the same message. Pierce says she has also been locked out of her office at town hall.
