The chief of the South Carolina Forestry Commission says a person burning yard debris caused the wildfire that has burned an estimated 20,000 acres of Horry County.

A state of emergency has been declared for the Barefoot Resort section of North Myrtle Beach and parts of Horry County for the 15,000 acres of land that have burned and continue to burn Thursday as a result of a brush fire that began on Wednesday, April 22nd.
