Sterling Homes, Horry County Government and Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering with United Way of Horry County and Wal-Mart to conduct an Extreme Countywide Canned Food Drive. Running until Jan. 15, this monumental food drive will help restock food pantries throughout the area that are in desperate need of supplies following the holidays.
Please get involved!! For more information, visit www.extremehorry.com or call United Way at 347-5195.
|
The goal is 100 tons of food - or around 33 large dump truck loads - and everyone is encouraged to join in and help make it happen. Here is how you can get involved:
Any business, club, organization or group can get involved. Be creative and have a competition between departments, get employees and customers involved, hang signs/flyers on the boxes, etc.
All food is to be dropped off at any Wal-Mart in Horry County by Jan. 15. All six Wal-Marts in Horry County have signed on to be the main drop off points.
For the logo and flyers, visit unitedwayhcsc.org or extremehorry.com, which has all the updates, including how to get involved with the build and more information about the food drive .
E-mail or call (843) 347-5195 and let United Way know your company is involved.
If your business would like a ''bin'' or ''barrel'' for the food, they can get one from Low Country Food Bank in Myrtle Beach (they have set several aside for this drive). The Resource Center for Low Country Food Bank is located at: 200 S. Broadway, Myrtle Beach SC 29577. When leaving Conway, take 501 to 3rd Avenue South, Myrtle Beach, turn right onto 3rd Avenue. You will come to a stop light, which is Highway 15/Broadway. Turn left at that light and you will see Allen's Used Cars on your right and the Food Bank will be on your left in a big white warehouse. Just pull around through the fence.
This is a countywide effort, all food pantries, shelters and children's homes in our community will benefit from this food drive.
Volunteers are needed to help sort and load food for the food pantries starting
Jan. 4-15. Contact United Way at (843) 347-5195 or e-mail if you would like to help.
''We're very grateful for the opportunity this allows to help our area food pantries get off to a great start in the New Year,'' says David DuRant, president of United Way of Horry County. ''An event of this magnitude doesn't come along very often, and it's going to require lots of help to be successful. But where there's a need, our area always has the will to meet it.''
''United Way is also in the midst of its $1.4 million fundraising drive to help support 36 local agencies in Horry County. We're currently at 74 percent of goal - and our volunteer teams are working extra hard to close out the campaign over the next few weeks,'' says General Campaign Chairman Steve Chapman. ''With the added enthusiasm and exposure made possible by the big food drive, we're anticipating the most exciting and successful campaign wrap-up in the history of our organization.''
