special report suicide

Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. Among youth, the numbers are even higher. It's the third leading cause of death among 10 to 24 year olds, and the second leading cause of death among college-age students.

Suicide is most often tied to mental heath issues. An estimated 90% of people who die by suicide had a diagnosable mental health condition. The good news is that in most cases those conditions are treatable.

In this four-part special report, NewsChannel 15's Allyson Floyd takes an in-depth look at this topic that's often taboo.  Learn the warning signs, the myths, and what you can do if someone you know is in crisis.  She'll also take you to a support group, SOS or Survivors of Suicide. All of the members have lost someone to suicide. You'll also meet a family who lost a 19-year-old to suicide and hear their story of grief and hope.
