PAWLEYS ISLAND -- The James Smith Realty building on Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island caught fire just after 2 a.m. according to Midway Fire Rescue.

The three alarm fire sent flames shooting through the roof before firefighters arrived on scene.

The fire required significant mutual aid from Horry County, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, Georgetown City and County departments, according to Midway Fire Rescue spokesman Bob Bebee.

The building is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
