Update 12:45am: Classes will be held on Wednesday as regularly scheduled.

Coastal Carolina University spokeswoman Martha Hunn tells NewsChannel 15 the campus is on lockdown after a shooting at University Place, which is a residence hall near campus.

Around 7:20 Tuesday night a 9-1-1 call was placed from University Place, according to Hunn, one person was shot and taken to a hospital.

According to Darris Fowler with the Horry County Coroner's Office the victim of the shooting, Anthony Liddell, 19, from Bennettsville, was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday morning.

Hunn says Liddell was a sophomore at CCU.

Hunn says police believe they are looking for one suspect, but there is no description of that person or the vehicle in which that person left campus. No arrests have been made.

The State Law Enforcement Division has taken over the investigation into the shooting. No specific details on the shooting have been released.

Campus housing residence halls will remain on lockdown for the remainder of Tuesday night according to Hunn.

According to a news release, CCU Department of Public Safety Police Chief David Roper has determined that currently there is no apparent threat to students, faculty or staff. Therefore, classes will be held on Wednesday as regularly scheduled.

CCU Counseling Services professionals and ministers will be on hand Wednesday at CCU's Lackey Chapel beginning at 8 a.m. to provide assistance to students. Counseling staff will also be available at the Grand Strand Activity House, located at University Place, and at Eaglin and Ingle residence halls. Counseling staff has also been assisting students at University Place since the incident was reported.

Classes that were in session at the time of the shooting were locked down, and students were not allowed out of the classrooms. That part of the lockdown has been lifted. Students are still asked to stay in their dorms. Everyone is asked to not travel around campus.

Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact CCU Dept. of Public Safety at 843-349-2177.
