SOUTH EL MONTE, CALIF. (AP) -- A game of tug-of-war turned dangerous for high schoolers in California.

Fire officials say a boy and a girl had fingers torn off during a game of tug-of-war at their high school Monday.

The students at South El Monte High School were participating in a homecoming activity at the time.

Fire officials tell the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that doctors are trying to reattach their fingers.
