Someone is smashing car windows in Lake City and grabbing whatever they can get their hands on.

Police say they've had a rash of car breakins since October.

Thieves have hit several residential neighborhoods across the city.

It's getting worse, most likely because of the holidays, according to officers.

"People know that there, that people have been Christmas shopping. There's stuff in their car. There's cash in their pocket books. There's credit cards. They know stuff, they know that you're spending money," said Lt. Roger Tilton.

He adds the culprits aren't just swiping pocket books, they're taking Christmas gifts too.

Tilton askS you to use common sense... lock your car doors and don't leave anything of value in plain sight.

If you have any information about the breakins in Lake City, you're asked to call police at (843) 374-5411.
