SUV crashes into swamp, driver dies

MARION COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) - Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a 1996 Ford Explorer ran off the road in Marion County and ended up in a swamp, killing the driver, according to senior trooper Bridget Wyant.

The crash happened off of Gilchrist Road and Secondary 309. The SUV ran off the road and was submerged in the swamp.

James Hayden, 27, of Hartsville was the only person in the SUV, according to Marion County coroner Jerry Richardson.

Hayden died of injuries sustained in the crash, said Richardson.

This crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
