Kids at one local elementary school had reason to jump for joy Tuesday. They also had brand new shoes to help them jump.
All the students at South Conway Elementary School got free pairs of shoes, handed out by Newspring church of Myrtle Beach.
The church's pastor says Newspring has 8 campuses in South Carolina and they all give shoes away to less fortunate children during the Christmas season. This is the first year the Myrtle Beach church has done it.
The pastor says church members are happy to do it, and the students - who were literally jumping up and down and dancing in their new shoes Tuesday - are thrilled.
"I heard one teacher say that one of their students told her that they've never gotten a new pair of shoes before and this is the first time and so obviously, stories like that are why we do this," said Pastor Charlie Bagwell.
Bagwell said the church gave away 580 pairs of New Balance shoes.
Earlier, the school sent letters home with students, asking parents to fill out forms with the kids' shoe sizes on them, to make sure they had the right sizes.
