Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendricks says Johnathan J. Cox Jr., 21, of Conway died after a single vehicle crash on Highway 701 two miles south of Conway.
Around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Cox was driving south on Highway 701 in a 2003 Acura, according to L.Cpl. Sonny Collins.
Cox lost control of the vehicle and went off the left side of the road, hitting a ditch, said Collins.
The victim was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Cox died at Conway Medical Center from injuries at the scene, according to Hendricks.
Hendricks says it's not known at this time whether alcohol was a factor.
Cox was the only person in the vehicle, said Collins.
The crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
