MYRTLE BEACH -- Police officers, retired and active, gathered in a special place of honor Sunday morning, to remember the police officers and others who died on this day ten years ago.

The Hall of Heroes is located in the Ocean/Sand Dunes Resort on 75th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.

Sunday morning at 11 a.m.,  Coastal Carolina Shields, an organization made up of retired law enforcement officers, held a tribute ceremony there.

This year's keynote speaker was New York Yankee legend Bobby Richardson, who is also a native South Carolinian.

The ceremony was presided over by a former NYPD detective Peter Grzymalski. His brother died in the attacks.

Chief Deputy Paul Butler, with the Horry County Sheriff's Office, spoke at the service.

A wreath laying ceremony concluded the service. Chief Warren Gall, with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, and Cpt. Jimmy Edwards, with the Horry County Police Department, presented the wreath.

As the ceremony ended, bagpipes played and 2 officers played Taps.
