The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers won their Big South Conference football opener 34-10 over the VMI Keydets at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday, before a crowd of 7,733.

CCU quarterback Aramis Hillary rolled up 359 yards of total offense. He ran the ball 14 times for 114 yards and one touchdown. It was the most rushing yards by a Coastal QB in five years. Hillary also threw for 245 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Chris Presley had a career high six catches for 100 yards and one TD. The Coastal offense had no turnovers, piled up 22 first downs and had 487 yards of net total offensive yards.

Josh Norman was the star of the defense with seven tackles, one interception and three pass break ups. The defense had three sacks while holding VMI to just 10 points including a touchdown late in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach. The Keydets have lost eight in a row, dating back to last season.

The 24th ranked Chanticleers improve to a record of 4-1 overall, 1-0 in the Big South Conference. For all the highlights and game analysis, be sure to watch The David Bennett Show on Sunday at noon on WPDE NewsChannel 15.

Next week, Coastal Carolina will be in Lynchburg, Virginia to play the Liberty Flames. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. next Saturday, October 15. Liberty has not lost a conference home game since 2006.
