MYRTLE BEACH -- As Hurricane Irene made her presence known in our area, dozens ventured out to the beach.

They wanted a first hand look of what the storm looked like.

Curiosity got the best of a crowd wanting a front row seat, and they weren't disappointed. "We just wanted to see what it looked like. I've never experienced it before," said Brittany Springs.

Many took pictures of the heavy surf. You can see all our viewer pictures here.

"This is a lot of fun. It's a great show by Mother Nature and as along as I don't get sucked out to a watery grave, I'm really going to enjoy this," said Randy Long.

We found people who just didn't heed the warnings and beach closures and ventured out into the surf.

Long said, "Best of luck to 'ya is what I think. I think maybe getting in a little bit is not that big a deal, but you wouldn't want to endanger yourself."
