The South Carolina Highway Patrol reminds motorist that children will be walking the streets and neighborhoods this Halloween.

Drivers should be extremely careful Halloween night for pedestrians who may be walking along busy streets going house to house trick or treating.  These children may not have an adult with them and could dart out into the roadway at anytime.

Remember their minds are on getting candy and treats and may not even notice how close they are walking near a road.

Parents please stay with children while out Halloween night and ensure they are being safe while having fun.  Tragedies take only a second to happen but also only a second to prevent.

Have children wear some type of reflective clothing or a light that will allow others to see them.

Drivers should also be on the lookout for impaired drivers.  Halloween has become a very popular time for adults to come together and in some cases consume alcohol which increases the chances for impaired drivers.

Do your part this year to make Halloween safe, watch out for children and never mix alcohol and driving.

The Highway Patrol will be out in full force to ensure everyone is being safe.
