NEW YORK (AP) -- ShopperTrak, a Chicago-based research firm, is forecasting that total holiday sales will rise 1.6 percent compared with a year ago, which would reverse last year's steep decline.

The research firm also predicts a 4.2 percent in foot traffic compared to a year ago.

Last year, holiday sales fell 5.9 percent while foot traffic dropped 15.4 percent, according to ShopperTrak estimates. The research firm tracks customer traffic at more than 45,000 stores.

The holiday sales estimate is a bit rosier than other forecasts offered over the past few weeks, which have been at best no better than unchanged from last year's debacle.

The holiday 2008 season saw the biggest sales decline in at least several decades.

Only but The Few have the money to spend this Holiday Season

Posted by Kami Kawaii, SC - Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 12:49 p.m.

No, being unemployed from the hospitality sector, thanks to you know who-who fired me JN! Merry Christmas to you JN! May I have my snowman back? You don't deserve even a lump of coal! There are no jobs to look for...who are the powers that be to say the economy is getting better? Try living my life, try living the lives of millions like me and they will see the economy is not getting better. Barely hanging on while unemployment pays bills but again thanks to the powers that be...they screwed UI benefits for thousands.
The blessed thing about this Holiday Season is that it will be the first in a long time I will be able to spend the Holiday's with my family. Poor as I may be that is all I am thankful for. JN, I hope that you are happy with yourself because you really are a sad mean old back stabbing good for nothing. Merry Christmas to all. May God Bless all the good people. May the others learn what Scrooge had to learn.

No i don't plan to do any more shopping. You keep hearing about the economy getting better, but that depends on which side of town you live on.

I will not be shopping at all this year. Money is an issue...The economy is still a mess. Prices are continuing to rise. Discount Stores no longer hold up to their names. I just look forward to the Holiday Season coming and going...Happy Holidays!

I will do less shopping during the holidays than I did last year

Our country is changing right before our eyes and it is scarey!!! The banks and credit card companies are one step ahead of our President and he cannot see that. They up the interest rates before the last new bill was voted on and now they are changing everyone to a variable rate before December when this new bill goes into effect. We have seen the best years of this country come and now they are going down the drain. Well I won't be spending much at all this year for the holidays, the banks and credit cards are getting all my extra money!!!!!
