Coastal Carolina University wants to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Tuesday, the school hosted an event called, Take Back The Day on the Prince Lawn.

Members of the silent witness program presented silhouettes to represent local victims of domestic violence

A CCU counselor talked about how domestic violence can affect more than the victims.

"They all feel very strongly about this topic. Many of them know people whether it be friends, their sisters, even their mother whose been touched by sexual violence and they feel very passionately about speaking out against it," said Chris Danerant-Haines.

A similar event called Take Back the Night will include a campus march against violence.

That march started around 7pm at Spadoni Park, and it will end at the university's track and field.
