Divers and fishermen, beware. There's a new and dangerous creature lurking off shore. It's the Lionfish.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources says the fish weighs only about a pound, but its spines have a venomous toxin that can cause extreme pain, nausea and paralysis.

They say Lionfish probably escaped from an aquarium in Florida in the early 90's, and they now inhabit much of the southeast coast.

DNR is working with federal agencies on a plan to control the invasive species.
