It was a good, long stroll down memory lane for those of us who are 50-plus, as we listened to great songs of The Doobie Brothers and watched a spectacular performance from Chicago on Wednesday night at DTE Energy Music Theatre.
We are the people who wore tie-dyed shirts, flowered blouses and bell-bottom jeans. Now, we are dressed in khaki shorts and polos, grooving to the music.
Each group put on a show that crossed generations and had people dancing, clapping and singing the entire night.
The Doobie Brothers opened the night by playing classics, like "Taking it to the Streets," "Long Train Running," "Black Water" and "China Grove."
It was electric and the crowd was fired up with every move that Pat Simmons and Tom Johnson made on stage.
The Doobie Brothers also performed songs from their newest release, "World Gone Crazy." They finished with "Listen to the Music." The DTE turned into a frenzied bunch.
How do you follow that act?
Chicago.
The band came out and everyone rose from their seats. Ladies screamed and men howled.
The sound was spectacular as the group played a variety of songs, including "Saturday In the Park" and "If You Leave Me Now." They transported the crowd to days gone bye and allowed us to relive our younger wilder days with their songs as the musical score of our younger lives.
To make the night even more amazing I was honored to be able to meet and take some photos with the guys of Chicago before they took to the stage. Each member was friendly and down to earth. They shared some stories and talked about some of the best places where they enjoy touring. I'm happy to report that they included Michigan, especially at the DTE Music Theater, as a venue they love to perform at.
These talented men are ageless; their ability to entertain has not changed at all. They are a true American classics worth revisiting and savoring the experience of seeing them live.
