Nine people from South Carolina were arrested in a multi-state illegal internet casino investigation, which led to the resignation of Florida's lieutenant governor.

Three of the suspects are from Horry County.

Joseph Harrington, 57, Elaine Harrington, 63, both of Longs and Timothy Williams, 47, of North Myrtle Beach were arrested on warrants from Seminole County, Florida.

Authorities said Wednesday they have issued 57 arrest warrants in Florida and five other states. Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says charges will include racketeering, conspiracy, money laundering and possession of slot machines.

The Internal Revenue Service found the fundraising corporation centers were actually internet casinos that made hundreds of millions of dollars, with little going to charities.

South Carolina's State Law Enforcement Division says more than $3 million was seized from six banks in the racketeering investigation involving a Florida-based nonprofit corporation called Allied Veterans of the World, Inc.

Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll once did public relations for the charity Allied Veterans of the World. She was questioned in the investigation, but she has not been charged with wrongdoing.

Joseph and Elaine Harrington are both charged with Conspiracy, Manufacture, Sale, Possession of Slot Machines, Lottery, Keeping Gambling Houses, and Florida Money Laundering.

Timothy Williams is charged Conspiracy and Florida Money Laundering.

More arrests are expected.
